Mount Evans Scenic Byway

Snowmobiling

No other byway offers this opportunity so close to Denver, making it an extremely popular attraction along the route whether you are a beginner or experienced rider.

There are three local ski resorts, including Echo Mountain, which is open exclusively during the winter months, as well as several others that offer snowshoeing, sledding, and tubing in addition to regular skiing activities.

Hiking

The entire route offers 150 miles of hiking trails perfect for beginners or more experienced hikers wanting longer treks through scenic landscapes found throughout Colorado.

Fishing

Visitors can fish for trout, salmon, and other cold-water game fish in several lakes found along the route, including Echo Lake and Squaw Creek Reservoirs. Other activities to enjoy include wildlife viewing, photography, and picnicking.

The byway is a great starting point for camping adventures from winter camping at Echo Lake or spring/summer/fall camping, one of the many campgrounds available throughout the region.

There are plenty of museums along the route, including the Mining Museum of Colorado in Idaho Springs, Echo Lake Park and Eco-Center in Evergreen, Clear Creek History Park within Idaho Springs Historic District, Georgetown Loop Railroad, and more.

Local cuisine

There are two local wineries: Vitis Wine Cellars and a winery in Idaho Springs called the Idlewild Winery, both offering tastings and several restaurants, including Crystal River Inn located near Echo Lake.
